Social Project "MOVE SIGNIFICANTLY" of Lithuanian Rotary District 1462
The purpose of collecting financial support for this social project is to help marathoner Aušra Garunkšnytė and her coach Linas Balsys prepare for 2020 Paralympics, to which a runner, with impaired sight, Ms. Aušra has already won a ticket. The aim is to maximize collection of support for the Tokyo Marathon, which she will run on 1st march 2020, as a part of her preparations cycle. This marathon will be a general rehearsal for the athlete of the 2020 Paralympic Games. We will also be helping to prepare for the sports camp in Italy in 2020 summer, as well as purchasing special equipment for sports.
The upcoming Paralympian, marathoner Aušra Garunkšnytė is a direct recipient of the “MOVE SIGNIFICANTLY” project and an ambassador for this social project. Ms. Aušra is the first Lithuanian athlete to win a ticket for 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. She is also the first woman in our country Lithuania to run in the Paralympic Marathon.
Walking is the most natural human physical activity suitable for absolutely everyone, regardless of age. Therefore, Rotary Club “Dipolis”, as the initiator of the project, decided to mobilize and invite all Rotary brothers and sisters in Lithuania to join actively the social challenge in a meaningful march reaching at least 22 million steps (what is the distance from and back Lithuania, the capital of Vilnius to Japan, Tokyo capital, where the Paralympics will take place).
For all this, RC “Dipolis” found the perfect tool for counting meaningful steps and professionally bringing together Lithuanian Rotary clubs from different cities for a common purpose – it is the mobile app #walk15. Mobile app developers present themselves: “Our goal is to inspire you to walk every day. #walk15 will help to keep track of the number of steps you have taken daily. With the mobile app, you will easily and quickly share your results and encourage others to move more! ”.
The #walk15 mobile app will allow us Rotarians to track and count our results to achieve the core goal of the project - to increase Rotary communion and wellness through the Rotary movement challenge. Together with that, we are going reach at least 22 million steps bringing together friends and supporters of the project to raise the maximum amount of money for marathoner Aušra Garunkšnytė and her trainer Linas Balsys to go to the Tokyo Marathon and the Highlands Camp in Italy. All of this, as already mentioned, is extremely important in the preparation cycle, as it is a general rehearsal before the 2020 Paralympic Games in the same city.
We invite you to join actively the whole Rotary District project, which runs from October 25, 2019 to June 30, 2020 and we ask Rotary and Rotaract clubs and individuals from their clubs who have joined the Rotary "Move SIGNIFICANTLY" challenge to support financially the project, as much as possible, in a bank account specifically dedicated to this project:
