Confectioner's workshop for unprivileged students

New confectioner's workshop for teaching students with intellectual impairment, hearing or complex disorders was opened in Vilnius Technology Teaching and Rehabilitation Centre.
 
The ribbon was cut by Rimvydas Stilinis, the President of Vilnius International Rotary Club, Herman de Lange, honorary consul of Lithuania to the Netherlands, and Žibutė Ubavičienė, deputy director of the school. All the participants of the opening - students, teachers, Rotarians and their family members - have tested the new equipment and tasted the results baked.
 
The project was implemented with the financial support by Vilnius International Rotary Club, the District as well in-kind support collected in the Netherlands. The goods from the Netherlands were transported free of charge by UAB "ALTA transportas" (director Raimondas Vėlavičius). The teachers and students of the school have also contributed by renovating the premises and refurbishing the equipment. The total value of investment surpasses 10 thousand EUR.
 
Rotary and the school has established the partnership in 2007 when the carpentry workshop was almost closed down. Vilnius International Club has joined forced with Swedish Strängnäs Club, their Districts and Rotary International Foundation to collect almost 60 thousand EUR which covered not only the new ventilation system vital for the existence of the carpentry workshop but also reequipped carpentry, sewing and cooking workshops. The equipment installed is still in use ten years later.
